Laser Hair Removal
Who is a candidate for laser hair removal?
Both men and women seek laser hair removal services to have superfluous or unwanted hair removed. Hair removal is commonly done on lip, chin, ear lobe, shoulders, back, underarm, abdomen, buttocks, pubic area, bikini lines, thighs, face, neck, cleavage, chest, arms, legs, hands, and toes.
Laser works best with dark coarse hair. Light skin and dark hair are an ideal combination. Hair removal lasers have been in use since 1997 and has been approved for "permanent hair reduction" in the United States by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Laser hair removal has become extremely popular because of its speed and efficacy, although some of the efficacy is dependent upon the skill and experience of the laser operator, and the choice and availability of different laser technology at the clinic which is performing the procedure. Some will need touch-up treatments, especially on large areas, after the initial set of 3-8 treatments. It has also been observed that some people seem to be non-responders – this is not confirmed and reasons are not known, and may in fact be due to lack of skill on the part of many laser operators and/or the type of machine and settings they are using. The results with the Palomar Star Lux 500 have been overwhelmingly positive.
Will it hurt?
You've heard all about numbing for an hour before a laser treatment and then it will still hurt. At Alpine Aesthetics we don't use any numbing agent prior to treatment because of the contact parallel cooling built into the handpience. Our clients consistently report that our laser hurts far less than laser treatments they have experienced before. Where your hair is thicker, you may feel more sensation than in areas that the hair is more sparse or where the tissue is thinner, the sensation is more pronounced.
What can I expect from my treatments? How much hair will be gone and will it come back?
We tell our clients that they can expect 70-90 percent hair reduction after 6 treatments. That is permanent hair removal. Most people will find that it really takes care of most unwanted hair. Some women may notice some hair regrowth during a time of hormonal change, (i.e. pregnancy, menopause, etc.) but it will be nothing like it was before laser hair removal treaments. After the first two treatments, you will notice about 50% reduction in hair in the area and by the 6th treatments the 70-90 percent reduction will be achieved. We also give you two free touchups after the 6 initial treatments to try and catch those stubborn hairs that keep wanting to avoid the laser. (note: final outcomes of laser hair removal are lighter hairs, less hair, slower growing hair and thinner hair)
